The Short Version
Techversol designed and built a browser-based 3D furniture configurator for a premium garage storage and workshop furniture brand. The client wanted more than a product viewer an interactive sales and marketing tool that could do two jobs at once: help buyers plan a space and qualify them on the first call.
We shipped a configurator built on Next.js, Three.js, and Node.js as a custom Shopify app. Customers can design a garage layout, place and customize products at true scale, and submit the finished configuration as a structured, quote ready lead. This changed the results.
- Buyers can see products at real scale in a garage style room before contacting anyone.
- Sales conversations now start from a configuration, not a blank form: every inquiry carries product selections, contact details, and layouts.
- Inbound quality went up: leads came from people who had done the planning work themselves.
What Is A Shopify 3D Furniture Configurator?
A Shopify 3D furniture configurator is an interactive, browser-based tool that lets customers place products in a realistic 3D room, adjust finish, layout, and size, and see the results in real time all connected through a live Shopify catalog.
For high consideration furniture like cabinets, garages, workbenches, and modular storage, it replaces the guesswork of static images with hands-on planning, connecting you to the sales pipeline.
Garage storage isn’t an impulse buy; cabinets, benches, and organization systems are high value items where customers need to understand size, capacity, finish, and fit before committing. The configurator answers those questions in the browser and converts that intent into structured data.

The Challenge: A Buying Journey Built On Static Images
The client had been selling high value garage furniture workbenches, storage cabinets, and workshop organization systems through static product pages, manual sales conversations, and photos. This created a predictable set of friction points.
- Customers couldn’t picture how products would look in their garage or workspace.
- Dimensions and layout were hard to grasp from photos alone, which stalled decisions on high-ticket items.
- There was no way to explore drawers, worktops, cabinets, and addons interactively.
- The sales team needed inquiries that carried real product context, not one line contact form submissions.
- Marketing needed a stronger interactive asset to lift conversion and engagement.
- The brief: turn the website into an interactive product planning journey that upgrades sales and marketing not just a nicer product viewer.
The Solution: A Configurator That Doubles asa Lead Engine

We built a full 3D configurator that lets users create a garage or workshop style space, drop products into it, customize them, and request a quote. It sits deliberately between product discovery and sales qualification.
Instead of browsing a product page, users can build a configuration that matches their real space. Once they are done, the system captures contact details, product selections, and configuration data. It then generates a quote ready request. The visual planning tool becomes a lead capture and quote generation engine.
What We Have Built
01 · Interactive 3D Room Planning
Products render inside a realistic garage or workshop environment, so buyers can settle size, spacing, layout, and other obvious questions before a sales contact. It also answers the questions that buyers ask. Will this fit? How will multiple cabinets and benches look together, and how much floor space is left? Will the layout suit the garage?
02 · Deep Product Configuration
There are 30 configurable products: workbenches, cabinets, drawer units, wall storage, and accessories. Users can adjust size and placement, drawer and cabinet combinations, screens, addons, color finishes, worktops, and rotation in the room. Every option removes a reason to hesitate before requesting a quote.
03 · Lead Capture Built intothe Flow
The configurator was designed as a lead magnet; users are prompted for details as part of the planning journey. The brand captures people who are planning a real purchase. Capture fields include email, phone, configuration, selected products, and layout preferences.
04 · Quote Generation
After configuring the room, users can request a quote based on that exact setup. The system produces a structured request with configuration details, selected products, customer information, and visual references. Sales receive qualified inquiry content, not just a vague form.
05 · Custom Shopify App Integration
A custom app binds the configurator to the client’s Shopify catalog, syncing products, feeding pricing and variants, and routing completed configurations into the sales workflow all while keeping the experience tied to the existing ecommerce setup.

Stop Losing High-ticket Buyers to Guesswork.
Let’s build a 3D configurator that plans the space and captures the lead in one flow.
The Engineering: Making 30 Configurable Products Run ina Browser
The hard part of a project like this isn’t the feature list; it’s making a Realtime 3D experience with about 30 configurable products load fast and stay smooth on a midrange phone with no app to download. Here are a few decisions that matter.

Asset Pipeline Over Raw Fidelity
There are thirty products, and each of them has multiple configurations and finishes. That’s a lot of geometry and texture data to ship to a browser. The work needs disciplined asset optimization compressing models and textures to keep the scene’s memory footprint under control, so the room stays interactive rather than photorealistic.
RealTime Rendering with Three.js
Three.js drives the live 3D view: placement, finish swaps, rotation, and layout changes update instantly in the browser. Keeping draw calls and retenders under control is what makes the experience usable on phone and desktop.
A Shopify App asthe Source of Truth
Instead of duplicating catalog data, the custom app treats Shopify as the product source. Product and variant data flow into the configurator, and completed configurations flow back as structured quote requests, so the 3D layer and commerce layer don’t drift out of sync.
Next.js + Node for Structure and Speed
Next.js gives the frontend fast, SEO friendly rendering and a solid foundation for a complex site, while Node handles the backend logic that powers lead capture and quote generation.
Why this stack: the goal was a download free experience for customers a fully web-based 3D pipeline that performs while staying maintainable inside the client’s existing Shopify ecosystem.
When Does A 3D Furniture Configurator Make Sense?

A product configurator furniture can earn its place when the products are high value, customizable, and hard to picture in real space. It’s an especially strong fit for brands selling:
- Garage and workshop setups, where layout and fit drive the decision.
- Product lines where sizing, finish, and combination shape the purchase.
- Furniture, modular storage, and cabinets.
In all these categories, product configurator furniture helps customers decide with confidence and hands sales qualified, purchase ready leads.
